Shortbreads with wine and Olive Oil – classic Spanish Christmas confectionery

Christmas is here! In the lounge, the tree is already up and decorated with gleaming baubles and twinkling lights dancing to the melodies of Christmas carols. Almost without us realising, another year has gone by and once again we’re enveloped in the magical, marvellous spirit of Christmas.

This is a time for being with the family and sitting down together to enjoy delicious dishes chosen to mark the occasion. With those precious moments in mind, we’re going to fill your home with the aroma of some freshly-baked Wine Shortbreads.

These sweet treats, traditional Spanish bakery fare, have been a Yuletide tradition since the 16th century. Their origin is quite unusual – they started being made to use up a surplus of wheat and pork fat. The mentality of the time reminds us, in days gone by, it was almost inconceivable to think about throwing away a harvest surplus.

Why bake them rather than buy them?

  • They’re very easy to make
  • They have a distinctive sweet wine, cinnamon and aniseed flavour.
  • They have a smooth and unmistakeable texture thanks to the use of Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Spain.
  • They make the perfect dessert to surprise your family and friends with something new on this special festive occasion

Fancy transporting yourself to a Spanish Christmas in a single bite? Then let’s get down to work! Crumbly shortbread biscuits
