Take care of your skin in winter with Olive Oil

How can you protect your skin during the cold winter months? The coldest part of the year is nearly here, and the low temperatures and extreme changes in weather can wreak havoc on your skin.

One of the best and most natural remedies to fight the cold weather’s effects on your skin is Olive Oil. Yes, you read that right, Olive Oil. Besides being the key ingredient of the Mediterranean diet, this foodstuff can also help keep your skin healthy and hydrated.

Moisturising your body with this “liquid gold” ensures that your skin remains soft and elastic. The process is very simple and can be done in the comfort of your own home. First, start by making an easy and simple exfoliating scrub to get rid of dead skin cells. Simply mix together two parts sugar, two parts Olive Oil and one part lemon juice. This mixture works wonders, quickly and easily scrubbing away any impurities brought on by the cold.

Once your skin is exfoliated, you can moisturise it with a few drops of Olive Oil, massaging the oil into your skin from head to toe using slow, circular motions. To make sure that the oil deeply penetrates the skin, take a relaxing bath once you finish with the massage.

Also, if you have a cut or wound of some sort, massaging it with Olive Oil can promote healing and help your skin return to its original texture.

Of course, these are not the only uses of Olive Oil. The majority of its benefits are found in the kitchen. This tasty oil enhances the flavour of food and, by using it in your recipes, can help prevent certain cardiovascular illnesses and fight the signs of ageing, among other things.
