How to cook Texas-style chili con carne recipe step by step:

  1. Heat the olive oil from Spain in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and peppers and cook until tender, for roughly 5 minutes.
  2. Add the chopped garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the minced beef to the pot and cook until browned and fully cooked. Break up the meat with a wooden spoon into small pieces.
  4. Add the ground cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, and dried oregano to the pot. Stir to combine and cook for a few minutes to allow the spices to meld with the meat and vegetables.
  5. Incorporate the tomato paste and cook for another 2 minutes, stirring to combine it with the other ingredients.
  6. Add the diced tomatoes and beef (or chicken) broth to the pot. Mix everything together and bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot.
  8. Add the drained beans to the mixture and cook for another 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend and the beans to heat through.
  9. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  10. Serve hot in individual bowls and, if desired, top with shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onion, or other additional ingredients.
